Serial entrepreneur and former Dragons’ Den star James Caan has today thrown down a gauntlet to Britain’s young, aspiring businessmen and women, offering a week’s “business bootcamp” work experience to the most promising candidate.
James’ challenge, launched in partnership with the social venture MyKindaCrowd, asks budding entrepreneurs to assess the business risks and opportunities of his latest business idea – a stall on Oxford Street selling Diamond Jubilee-themed T-shirts with his private equity firm Hamilton Bradshaw.
James is looking for the brightest, most talented and most entrepreneurial students who have the ability to evaluate, assess and respond to opportunity and change.
Participants in the challenge will need to consider all parts of the start-up business, including pricing, recruitment and growth. The winning applicant will get a week of personal work experience with James and his team, visiting James’ businesses in London and learning the ins and outs of growing a company.
“Today’s job market is all about getting yourself noticed and making connections. Young people know this and are keener than ever to prove themselves, so I’m confident this challenge will attract some great talent. The winner will demonstrate that they have all the passion, skills and ideas needed to start a business and make it grow.”
This is the latest challenge launched in partnership with MyKindaCrowd, a social venture which aims to connect companies with young people. A string of companies have already set challenges through the start-up, most recently Cisco, McDonald’s, Fujitsu and Sheaffer. MyKindaCrowd’s recent partnership with UCAS, the body responsible for managing university applications in the UK, means that its challenges now reach over 2 million students and student applicants.
Will Akerman, chairman and founder of MyKindaCrowd said:
“We all know that Britain is brimming with talented young people, and MyKindaCrowd offers a different way for companies to connect with them. The people who take on our challenges show they have the drive, imagination and confidence to grasp the nettle and get a head start in their chosen field. We are delighted to be teaming up with James on this challenge and urge aspiring entrepreneurs to step up and give it their best.”
The closing date is 20th July 2012.
